August 02, 2011 BACK 2 SCHOOL BLAST HELPS PREPARE FOR CLASS
This year school begins on September 1st, giving Walker County parents more time to prepare for class and do back to school shopping. However in this economy some families don't have the resources to be prepared for school no matter when it starts. That's why local businesses and churches are working together to give out free book bags and supplies during this year's Back 2 School Blast on August 27th. As always, the ninth-annual Blast will feature free carnival-style games and mini-golf for kids, an inflatable, face painting from Child Evangelism Fellowship, and book bags full of free school supplies. This year boys and girls will also, for the first time, be able to get free haircuts. Back 2 School Blast will begin at 9 AM on Saturday August 27th, the weekend before school starts. Families are not required to show proof of income or residency to participate in Back 2 School Blast, but school-age children (K-12th grade) must be present to get supplies. Everything is provided free, first-come first-served, until 11 AM or until supplies run out. School supplies and new or new-looking book bags for Back 2 School Blast are being collected now through August 19th. Donations can be dropped off at the Kids 4 Christ building, Fred's Smallmart, Cohutta Bank, and several local churches. Volunteers are also needed to pack bags a week before the event and help with the Blast on August 27th. Back 2 School Blast is held at the Kids 4 Christ building at 108 W. Withers Street in LaFayette. For information about attending or contributing to Back 2 School Blast call Kids 4 Christ at (706) 639 3234, e-mail info@k4c.info, or see the Back 2 School Web site at www.k4c.info/b2sb/ .
